I’d never heard of the Reuben James even though Woody Guthrie wrote a song about it.

This was something I hadn’t heard about before. Because of my father, I was very knowledgeable about Pearl Harbor, and all the possible theories, but this presents so many more, and even helps validate some of the others. In particular, one that says that Roosevelt had early warning but let the attack happen. He had seen no other way to get congress to budge on going to war. This story helps me understand how that could possibly have been true. He could have been carrying the grudge for this ship that had already gone down. We also can understand his decision when we realize that he did not for one moment imagine the consequences of that attack, nor how the men of the Arizona had won a band contest giving them the right to sleep in that day. If he had seen the aftermath as my dad did, he would have been ashamed for not warning the men. I can’t wait to read this book Hallows Eve.
You are an amazing writer and a storyteller. Every book of yours that I have ever read hold my interest so that I have to keep reading through the night. Thank you for so many great reads.
Glad you enjoy the books. I don’t think Roosevelt knew in advance. No one expected this exactly. I cover Pearl Harbor and the misconceptions leading up to it in one of the Green Beret Disaster guides. Both side misjudged each other.
